9MM AMMO

Buy 9mm Ammo Online (Target Ammo & Hollowpoint)

Without a doubt, 9mm Luger is the most widely used and most popular handgun caliber in the world. Officially known as 9x19mm Parabellum, 9mm ammo is easy to manufacture and a low cost round. 9mm ammo is the trusted caliber of many militaries and law enforcement agencies around the globe.

Introduced in 1902, by Deutsche Waffen und Munitionsfabriken, the 9mm Luger was intended for use in the new Luger semi-auto pistol designed by Georg Luger, from his previous work on the 7.65x25mm and 7.65x21mm rounds, who wanted a compact round that could be lethal at 50 meters. By 1904, the 9mm round and the notorious Luger pistol had traveled around the world, gaining favor in both the British and United States as potential new service pistols and cartridges. Thus, the powder was lit on the propellant that would drive this caliber into history and its present day global fame!

Here at Pro Armory, we are shooting these brands and projectiles through our personal firearms! At Pro Armory, we ensure that a wide variety of 9mm ammo is always in stock, ready for immediate purchase!

Types of 9mm Ammo

The 9mm cartridge comes in various types, each tailored for specific purposes. Understanding these can help you choose the right ammo for your needs:

  • Full Metal Jacket (FMJ): FMJ bullets feature a metal jacket that encases the lead core. This design makes them ideal for target shooting and range training due to their consistent performance and affordability.
  • Hollow Point (HP): HP bullets have a hollow tip that expands upon impact, making them perfect for self-defense and hunting. This expansion increases stopping power, ensuring maximum effectiveness.
  • Jacketed Hollow Point (JHP): JHP bullets combine the features of FMJ and HP. They have a metal jacket for better penetration and a hollow tip for expansion, making them suitable for both self-defense and hunting.
  • Lead Round Nose (LRN): LRN bullets have a simple lead core with a rounded nose. They are commonly used for target shooting and range training due to their straightforward design and cost-effectiveness.
  • Steel Case: Steel casings are a more affordable alternative to brass casings. While they may not be as reloadable, they offer a cost-effective option for high-volume shooting.

Choosing the Right 9mm Ammo for Your Needs

Selecting the right 9mm ammo depends on your specific requirements and preferences. Here are some tips to guide you:

  • Self-Defense: For self-defense, hollow point or jacketed hollow point bullets are recommended. These bullets expand upon impact, providing maximum stopping power to neutralize threats effectively.
  • Target Shooting and Range Training: Full metal jacket or lead round nose bullets are ideal for target practice. They are more affordable and offer consistent accuracy, making them perfect for honing your shooting skills.
  • Bullet Weight: Consider the weight of the bullet. Heavier bullets deliver more kinetic energy, while lighter bullets produce less recoil, allowing for faster follow-up shots.

Several brands are renowned for their high-quality 9mm ammunition. Here are some of the most popular ones:

9mm Ammo Specifications

When choosing 9mm ammo, it’s essential to understand the specifications that can affect performance. Here are some key specs to consider:

  • Bullet Weight: Measured in grains, bullet weight affects the ammo’s performance. Heavier bullets provide more kinetic energy, while lighter bullets offer less recoil.
  • Bullet Type: The type of bullet, such as FMJ, HP, or JHP, determines its intended use and performance characteristics.
  • Casing Type: Casings can be made from brass or steel. Brass casings are more common and reloadable, while steel casings are more affordable but less suitable for reloading.
  • Muzzle Velocity: This is the speed at which the bullet leaves the barrel, measured in feet per second (fps). Higher muzzle velocity generally means flatter trajectory and better accuracy.
  • Muzzle Energy: Measured in foot-pounds (ft-lbs), muzzle energy indicates the kinetic energy of the bullet as it exits the barrel, affecting its stopping power.

ProArmory Experts Choice For

9mm Home Defense Ammo

The experts at ProArmory recommend these 9mm JHP options for home defense and concealed carry needs.

What Are The Different Types of 9mm Ammo?

The two most common types of 9mm ammo are full metal jacket or (FMJ)  and Jacketed Hollow Points or JHP.

9mm Full Metal Jacket (FMJ): A FMJ bullet has a metal jacket that covers the lead core and unlike a hollowpoint bullet, FMJ is not designed to expand upon impact.

FMJ rounds are typically used for range training or target practice.

Jacketed Hollow Point (JHP): A JHP bullet generates more force and does expand on impact. Jacketed Hollow Points are intendended for self-defense use because of the increased expansion and penetration upon impact.

There are also several other types of 9mm ammo, including:

Lead Round Nose (LRN): A LRN bullet has a lead core and a rounded nose and is cheaper than full metal jacket or jhp rounds. The reason most shooters choose lead round nose is because it's cheaper than FMJ.

Some ranges do not allow lead ammo.

Steel Case 9mm Ammo: The casing of this bullet is made from steel, which is more cheaper than brass casings.

Steel casings are less durable and can be harder on firearms. Here at ProArmory.com, we do not recommend steel cased 9mm ammo if you can avoid it.
