The M16 of The Shotgun World
Breech-loading, pump-action, lever-action, and semi-automatic shotguns have been around for a long while. Semi-auto shotguns are also here to stay.
Depending on who’s at the end of the barrel, the shotgun has created life-long lovers and life-long haters since its creation. Constant work and feedback from shotgunners came together at Rock Island Armory to give us the next generation of defense and hunting: the VR60 shotgun.
The VR60 is closely regulated by inspections and import standards to make sure every gun is combat-ready. It’s produced in Turkey by RIA (Rock Island Armory) and shipped to buyers across the globe, primarily the United States.
The VR60 is a new take on the classic shotgun platform without reinventing the same things that already work. RIA improves upon the semi-auto shotgun by giving us a weapon that weighs as much and looks similar to the M16. The aesthetics copy the genius of the ergonomics of the M16 but applied to a semi-auto shotgun.
Tired of pinching your palms with the lever-action? Sick of nicking a finger while racking the slide every time you fire? Don’t scoot on this opportunity to get a semi-auto VR60 or the accessories you need to champion your game or shooting goals.

The VR60: A Shotgun for the American Spirit
After its battlefield introduction by the U.S. in 1918, the shotgun was such a tactical thorn in Germany’s side in World War I. They sent multiple envoys to plead their disuse in warfare to Western Allied powers. Essentially, they called the shotgun “cheating.”
But all is fair in love and war, as they say.
Ever since then, the shotgun was a major game-changer and was used in every major conflict since World War I. Shotguns are still on the battlefield today, and can be found attached to picatinny rails underslung to the barrels of U.S. and European battle rifles.
To this day, the United States remains the highest user-base of shotguns in the world. Naturally, success propagates itself. Shotguns are found in innumerable police, paramilitary, and military formations worldwide.
Thanks to Rock Island Armory, this classic American firearm has been reimagined as an affordable, semi-automatic beast built with customization in mind. What’s more, the VR60 is a 12 gauge shotgun and utilizes a tactical design that mimics ergonomic designs familiar to North Americans. Picatinny rails offer a slew of attachments for the discerning hunter or tactically-minded person. From tac-lights to lasers to your grandma’s hand mixer, you can attach damn near anything to the VR60.
The familiar M16 design and feel will alleviate any “culture shock” of holding a new weapon. The rails on this long-barreled shotgun offer the ability to stack attachments (if your accessories accommodate). Even your entire body can become an accessory for the VR60 if you throw on a couple bandoliers and ammo belts.
American design, Turkish manufacturing precision, and strict inspection standards and tolerances come together in the VR60. It’s sure to excite many hunters and tactical enthusiasts.
Gear up Your VR60 Shotgun with Accessories from Pro Armory
Stock up on ammo, rack the slide, and start shooting. It’s that easy.
At Pro Armory we have you covered no matter what your goal is. With the semi-automatic and magazine-fed system, the VR60 offers the best of both worlds: The fast fire rate of a semi-auto weapon combined with the versatility and power of a 12 gauge shotgun. Whether it’s slug, shot, or even rock salt, the Rock Island Armory VR60 can handle it.
RIA has brought to you a highly modifiable weapons platform that will shake the loyalty of shotgun owners dedicated to non-semi-auto guns. Here are some VR60 modifications to consider from the experts at Pro Armory:
Magazines
With the VR60, you can change mags as fast and easy as pulling the trigger. The VR60 magazines are typically available in the following styles:
- “Banana” mags: 5, 6, 9, 10, 12, 15, 19, and 20-round magazines.
- Drum mags:15, 20 and 25-round magazines.
With a vast variety of selection, Pro Armory offers every possible option for you at amazing prizes. The many magazines to choose from will help you achieve the goal of becoming the ultimate authority in shotgunning.
NOTE: Always exercise caution in rapidly firing a semi-auto, especially with the “sluggish” fire-rate of a semi-auto shotgun. Jams and magazine fowling may occur.
Slings
Adding a sling to your VR60 shotgun makes it easier to hold and can even improve your shooting stance. Typically, there are 2 types of slings to consider:
- 2-Point Slings: 2-point slings are the most common type of sling. They attach at two points on the shotgun, typically at the front and back of the stock, creating a simple, yet effective way to carry your weapon. This allows the gun to hang vertically at your side or across your body. The benefit of a 2 point sling is that it keeps your shotgun close to your body, allowing you to easily maneuver through tight spaces while keeping your hands free. Most of all, it allows for quick and easy access to your shotgun when you need it.
- 3-Point Slings: 3-point slings are a bit more complex, attaching to the shotgun at three points: the front of the stock, the back of the stock, and the receiver. This type of sling can be used for a variety of carrying positions, including across the chest or back, and is especially useful for those who need to switch between different carrying positions quickly. That said, 3-point slings can also be more cumbersome and difficult to adjust than 2-point slings.
Optics
Red dot sights, ring sights, and the classic “single post” sight design proliferate across shotgun models. Whatever you prefer to aim with, don’t miss the opportunity to improve your sights. The VR60 allows you to easily swap sights, so you can adjust between missions or hunts and keep your game strong from start to finish.
With Pro Armory’s selection of sights, you don’t have to have perfect vision to get a good sight on your target. Ring sights help blend old and new, holographic sights will give a modern edge, and the old “single post” sight at the end of a barrel will still help any marksman.
Whether it’s slug, scattershot, or rock salt, you’ll never miss with the sights that best fit your eyes and shooting style.
Lights and Lasers
If you want to stay safe, improve your accuracy, and gain an edge in the field, adding lights and lasers to your VR60 shotgun is a must.
A tac-light is a great tactical addition to your VR60. In addition to improving safety and visibility in low-light conditions, they can also enhance your accuracy and make it easier to hit your targets with precision. Tac-lights can also stun your attacker with a sudden, bright flash, making it easier to hit them.
Similarly, lasers help with accuracy, especially in self-defense scenarios where hip-fire may be your only option. They can also be intimidating to home intruders, should the situation arise.
Some manufacturers have created light/laser combo attachments to provide a full set of advantages — stun power, greater visibility, and pinpoint precision.
Grips and Rails
The VR60 can take a range of grips. The built-in rails can match a stock or extended barrel and accommodate an incredible range of accessories. The rail grips alone can offer stability in foregripping the weapon, but a foldable foregrip improves your marksmanship ten-fold.
The rails are usually available in matte black along with most foregrips. Some may be available in camouflage coloring. This brings us to the pistol grips of the VR60 — they’re available in a wide range of colors from matte black to forest camouflage, even including snow camouflage and “psychedelic” coloring in some cases, if that’s your thing.
Grips can come made with finger grooves to allow even more personalized gripping power, while others remain straight and flush for a completely ambidextrous feel.
Bandoleers
Bandoleers aren’t the most common accessory people buy, but they do provide a unique utility. Rather than carrying boxes of ammo in a duffle bag or tote, you can have a whole ton of shells strapped to your body for easy access.
Blackhawk bandoleers offer a tough, durable band that can hold a phenomenal 55 rounds. Constructed from military-grade pistol belt nylon webbing and heavy-duty elastic, this bandoleer is built to last and keep your shells secure even in the toughest conditions. Plus, at 5 ounces, this bandoleer weighs almost nothing. It’s even washer-and-dryer safe, as long as you use appropriate settings for nylon garments — and of course, it comes in black.
Frequently Asked Questions
The best sling is the one that works best for you. To find this out, know what you’ll be doing most often with your rifle. If you’re doing A LOT of shooting, a single-point is good. If you’ll be shooting but also carrying it a bit, go for a two-point sling. If you’re gonna be covering lots of miles before you shoot anything, look into a three-point sling.
