Get Essential Hunting Gear for Deer Season At Pro Armory
For thousands of years, humans have hunted for food. We started with pretty simple tools — spears with stone tips, slings, and bows made of rawhide. But today we have technology. With deer season always around the corner, the right technology can help you bag that ten-pointer.
Stock up for your next deer hunt. Get high-quality ammo and hunting gear you can afford at Pro Armory.
Preparing for the Hunt: Tools and Gear To Help You on Your Adventure
Hunting requires more than grabbing your rifle or bow and heading to the woods. Each type of hunt requires a range of items from clothing, ammunition, and safety along with specialty items like stands and blinds. Before your next outing, prepare your kit to meet a wide range of challenges.
Multi-Purpose Clothing
Hunting wear options can vary by season, terrain (wooded, open), and intended target.
- Protection: Hunting often means prolonged exposure to the elements. At the most extreme, you’ll need multiple layers to protect against cold and moisture. Sun protection is also a must-have.
- Camouflage:Camo is an essential tool for any successful hunter, but it’s often misunderstood. It doesn’t make you invisible to prey, but rather breaks up your outline so it’s harder for deer (who are colorblind) to catch sight of you. Patterns and types will depend upon your target, weather, and terrain. A recon of your hunting grounds will help in selecting the right camo for the job. Manystyles are available: from bibs and overalls to jackets and hoodies.
- Safety: For deer hunting (or for any other creature incapable of detecting color) orange is a great choice for a vest. Prime hunting spots, particularly on public land, can get crowded, especially when hunting in a group/party. Unless you want to be on the receiving end of a fellow hunter’s itchy trigger finger, wear orange loud and proud.
Blinds
When you’re hunting, you’re intruding in the domain of your target. The local deer know every tree and stream, and they’ll probably see you before you see them. Tree stands and blinds help you overcome the deer’s home-field advantage.
For gun and bow hunters operating on the ground and at shorter ranges, a blind is a must-have. Occupying the same plane as the deer puts you at a distinct disadvantage. Unless you are comfortable lying motionless in a ghillie suit for hours, a blind offers a concealed position for the long hours of waiting for your prey.
Tree Stands
In other situations, the range of engagement for deer requires your target to get really close to you. Tree stands place you above the normal sight line of the game and provide a steady platform to take a shot. Some states also allow gun use from tree stands. There are three principal types of stands and two essential accessories.
- Hang-On Stands: These use straps to attach to a tree and offer quiet access. Lighter-weight versions are portable and easy to set up. This type requires either climbing sticks or nailed-in boards (if permitted) to access.
- Ladder Stands:This includes a ladder and is the most comfortable and stable platform. The downside? It can take two people to move and install, making it difficult to change positions.
- Climbing Stands: This has a platform and a seat, and doesn’t require climbing sticks or ladders to access. It requires some practice to use but offers the most portability of any tree stand type.
- Rangefinders: Knowing the distance to the target is an absolute must for bowhunters. While rifles have a relatively flat trajectory over long distances, arrows are another matter. A few inches high or low can mean the difference between success and failure.
- Safety Harness:Having the security of safety gear allows you to focus on identifying your target and taking a shot — not just trying to stay in the tree stand. Harnesses can range from belt-style to climbing-type or camo vest harnesses.
Knives
While a knife alone won’t help you score a buck, it remains an essential hunting tool. Whether you’re prepping for the field, setting up camp, or dressing game, a knife comes in handy.
- Drop-Point Blade: The most utilitarian knife for hunting, it’s got many uses, including skinning. All hunters should carry a fixed or folding blade knife like this.
- Caping Knife: A thinner, scalpel-like blade allows for more precise hide removal. If you want to make a trophy out of your hunt, this blade is better than most common skinning knives. However, it requires much more time and skill to use properly.
- Gut-Hook Knife: This modern-style blade includes a sharp hook near the point. The design allows for rapid gutting of big game, tearing through the body cavity faster than traditional blades.
Other Accessories: The Little Things That You Can’t Live Without
A gun and a knife will get you a long way in a hunt. But to really increase your odds of success, you need a few more tools.
- Lights: The early bird gets the worm, and that often means getting into position before your prey wakes up. If you’re hunting deer, that means before dawn. To help you navigate the woods or plains in low light, you need a trustworthy flashlight or headlamp. Many tactical flashlights will do the job just fine, but a headlamp allows you to use both hands while still lighting your path.
- Optics: Sure, you can nail a deer with iron sights, but a red dot optic or a nice LPVO can really make it easy to nail the heart and lungs. There are lots of choices for optics, and it mostly depends on your preference.
- Trail Cameras: Trail cameras allow you to track the movement of your prey remotely. Over time, an aptly placed trail camera can provide information on the right time and location to sit in your stand for a successful hunt.
- First Aid: Whether you’re hunting alone or with a party, you’re bound to run into a situation requiring medical attention. You could cut your hand when field-dressing a doe or sprain your ankle climbing into a tree stand. First-aid is doubly important for multi-day/remote situations.

Simple and cheap full metal jacket rounds are great for training and sighting in your rifle. When you’re on the hunt, come prepared with the right round for your game. Here are some great rounds available at Pro Armory:
Big Game Variety: Federal Fusion Ammunition
Fusion(R) was the first rifle ammunition specifically built for deer hunting. Today, Federal Fusion is still one of the best deer hunting rounds on the market, offering the largest expansion and highest weight retention in head-to-head comparisons against the competition. With a molecularly fused jacket and a pressure-formed core, Fusion transfers maximum energy on target.
Big Game High Performance: Remington Core-Lokt Ammunition
Since 1939, more hunters have relied on Remington Core-Lokt than any other big game ammunition, and rightly so. It's filled more tags on more continents than any other load. As the original controlled expansion bullet, Core-Lokt’s performance has made it an excellent choice for hunters for over 75 years. The tapered copper jacket is locked to a solid lead core delivering massive 2X expansion, weight retention, and consistent results. It’s available in soft point and pointed soft point versions, as well as a range of bullet weights for virtually every centerfire hunting caliber made.
Small Game: Winchester 22 LR Super-X Power Point
The 40 Grain Plated Hollow Point version of this round is excellent for varmint hunting, featuring plated hollow-point bullets. Our offer comes with 222 rounds per box or bulk cases of 2220 rounds.

Don’t want to break the bank for training and sighting your scope? Ammo Incorporated offers a range of pistol and rifle ammunition at affordable prices, allowing you to put more rounds down range to improve your accuracy.
Hunting and Utility Knives
Deer aren’t cats — there’s only one way to skin them: a very sharp knife. At Pro Armory, you’ve got several options depending on your preferences:
3.25” Folding Utility: Columbia River M4-02
Custom knife maker and Knife Makers' Guild Member Kit Carson is widely known for his M16(R) design, offered in many CRKT production models. But since 1990, one of Kit's best selling custom models is the classic M4. CRKT is offering the M4 design in Kit's smaller everyday carry size. The M4-02 lightweight model features white bone scales and contrasting black G10 bolsters, hand contoured like a Carson custom.
Compact Folding Utility: Spyderco Cara Cara
The Cara Cara from Spyderco features:
- A full flat ground blade for enhanced edge geometry and cutting performance.
- A Bi-Directional Textured™ FRN handle for superior grip and increased control.
- Phosphor bronze pivot washers for even smoother blade operation.
- Spine and choil jimping for precise control during use.
- A four-position clip that supports all possible carry configurations.
As utility knives go, this thing has a lot to offer.
First Aid Kits
As a well-prepared hunter, you should have the means to treat both minor injuries and provide initial life/limb-saving care. At Pro Armory, we have first aid kits and other items to help with that:
All-In-One: Rothco MOLLE Tactical First Aid Kit
This IFAK is a compact and portable MOLLE pouch that is designed to be attached to your MOLLE-compatible tactical equipment. Rothco’s kit can be used on other gear like Plate Carrier Vests. The tactical pouch measures approximately 7" x 8" x 3" and features one inside pocket and elastic bands to secure the contents of the first aid kit. Contents include an array of bandages, sterile pads, antibiotic ointment, alcohol pads, scissors, tape, and other common first aid items.
Combat Application Tourniquet (C-A-T, Gen 7)
A proven tried and true tourniquet that should be a part of every medical kit designed to combat bleeding wounds. The C-A-T excels in single-handed use when compared to alternatives and is both lightweight and compact. The durable windlass system is constructed with a polymer handle which helps reduce weight and tightens down the patented free-moving internal band. This free-moving band applies true circumferential pressure to the extremity.
